Ubuntu Loud Static Noise? I recently installed Ubuntu v9.10. Even if the sound is mute, a constant static beep would occur. This is very irritating and I was wondering if anyone know a way to fix this. Thanks so much!

Open up the "Terminal" via the menu Applications / Accessories and run the command "alsamixer", try to lower the value of "Master" to about 90-70%. Press the key <Esc> when youre done.

Or simply use the volume icon in the system tray and lower the volume there.
