ATI Mobility radeon 7500. Behöver hjälp! [LÖST]

Jag kör Gutsy på en Acer laptop med ett ATI mobility radeon 7500 kort och har problem.

Då jag har läst c:a 23 km forumtrådar om detta ämne har jag tyvärr testat en del saker som inte fungerat bra. Så jag har kört detta för att försöka komma tillbaka till scratch.

$  sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge xorg-driver-fglrx

$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri
Men, det är långt ifrån OK nu.
När jag loggar på datorn så blir skärmen svart, efter nån sekund kommer ett litet kors upp istället för vanliga pilen, skärmen fortfarande svart. Sen ändras korset till pilen och ett rektangulärt fönster kommer upp med Ubuntu loggan och lite moduler som laddas. Fortfarande svart bakgrund.
Efter c:a 20 sek kommer skrivbordet fram i 1024x768@60hz.
Allt är extremt segt, att bara flytta runt ett fönster blir hackigt.. Så allt står inte rätt till..

Hmm.. Har vart och nosat på den tidigare, men avvaktade för att 7500 inte är supporterad i den.
Detta är saxat från ATI's sida:
Q2:    Which ATI graphics cards can use this driver?
A2:

The ATI Proprietary Linux driver currently supports Radeon 8500 and later AGP or PCI Express graphics products, as well as ATI FireGL 8700 and later products. We do not currently plan to include support for any products earlier than this.
Drivers for earlier products should already be available from the DRI Project or Utah-GLX project.

Men kanske kan testa drivarna som dom hänvisar till ovan.

Då är det den som gäller, du har nästan allt klart. men går att optimera lite till på ditt kort.

Testade den guiden precis, men gick inte heller. Samma resultat. Tar tid innan skrivbordet syns och "hackigt" att flytta runt på fönster när man väl är inne.

Nedan här är resultat efter guiden.

Crap.. Kommer inte åt datorn nu.. Har formodligen fått ny IP adress. Jag skickar in xorg när jag kommer hem!
Tack så jättemycket för hjälpen så här långt.
Har haft trådar på ubuntuforums.org, men fick inte en enda kommentar alls!
En polare tipsade om den svenska.

Men som sagt.. Postar den så fort jag kommer hem!

Hmm.. Nu efter en reboot så får jag 1400x1050@60.. Det har dock hänt tidigare. Skulle tippa att om jag skulle testa att dra igång extra visuella effekter eller nått så kommer x servern krascha och sen hamna i 1024x768 igen.

För att bumpa en gammal tråd.

Hur löste du det?

Sitter med samma skit själv och jag är sprillans ny på linux, igår lyckades jag avinstallera något jag inte borde avinstallerat så jag fick lov att installera om hela ubuntu istället. Gör inte om samma misstag igen förrän jag vet hur man bör/ska gå till väga.
