Visst kan detta låta som ett nybörjarproblem, men jag kan på intet sätt kompilera NMap från source.

Börja med att installera build-essential paketet (t.ex. via synaptic eller sudo apt-get install build-essential från kommandoraden). Du bör förmodligen även installera libpcap-dev paketet. Försök sen igen.

Förresten, varför kompilerar du nmap? Det finns ju i Ubuntu förråden. Vill du bara installera nmap så går det ju bra via synaptic eller sudo apt-get install nmap.

Jag har dock ett riktigt, riktigt nybörjarproblem, n'mligen programinstallationens följder. Var hamnar allt? Hur kommer man åt det?

Om du installerade m.h.a. Synaptic kan du gå in och leta reda på paketet, högerklicka på det, välja Egenskaper och sedan kolla under Installerade filer så ser du vilka filer som installerats. Kolla gärna i Wikin också:
