Min kokpunkt var på 90%, Ubuntu var på väg att ta sin sväng till Skithögen.....
Men så då hände det otroliga, jag hittade en guide som funkade klockrent!!
Till och med slapp xlg inloggning och kan nu logga in som vanligt med Gnome session.
Jag länkar + skriver den här inne, så att guiden alltid finns för alla.

Detta är testat med ett Radeon 9600 AGP 256 MB, funkar perfekt efter denna guide.

Please make sure that you have all updates installed on your Ubuntu Feisty Fawn desktop before you try this.


2 Find Out About Your Graphic Card

First you should find out about your graphic card. Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and type You should find something like this in the output:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 01)

(This output is from my notebook which uses an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphic card.)

The following list shows which ATI graphic cards can use Beryl (your graphic card should be listed under Full 3D Support if you want to use Beryl):
Full 3D Support

    * 7000 / rv100 based cards.
    * 7200 / R100 based cards.
    * 7500 / rv200 based cards.
    * 8X00 / R200 based cards.
    * 9000 / rv250 based cards.
    * 9100 / R200 based cards.
    * 9200 / rv280 based cards.


Experimental 3D Acceleration

    * 9500 / R300 based cards.
    * 9600 / rv350 or rv360 based cards.
    * 9700 / R300 based cards.
    * 9800 / R350 or R360 based cards.
    * X300 / rv370 based cards.
    * X600 / rv380 based cards.
    * X700 / rv410 based cards.
    * X800 / R420 or R423 or R430 or R480 based cards.

2D Acceleration Only

3 Configure AIGLX Plus The Open-Source ATI Driver

We want to use AIGLX with open-source ATI driver instead of XGL with the proprietary ATI driver (fglrx). Therefore we have to disable fglrx. First we disable the fglrx kernel module: Then we run If you see ATI mentioned in the output, then you're still using the wrong driver. If you see SGI instead, everything's fine. On my notebook, the output looked like this:

server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: SGI
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.

If you have ATI in the output of the previous command, remove the fglrx driver like this (you can do this also if you have SGI in the output - just to go sure): Next we have to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Replace with (Please note the added Option lines and the changed Driver line. Of course, your Identifier will look different if you use a different graphic card than I do.)

The Monitor and Screen sections in /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be alright.

Also replace
with
(Please note that I added an AIGLX Option line at the top.)

And finally add the following two sections to the end of /etc/X11/xorg.conf if they don't exist elsewhere in the file: To make the changes take effect, we must restart X. We can do this by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (if this doesn't work, reboot the system).

Afterwards, run
again. You should now see that SGI is mentioned in the output:

server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: SGI
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.

Then run This should show the following line:

direct rendering: Yes

Nu borde grafikkortet vara installerat och klar.

För att sen utföra accelerations test på kortet så kör detta i terminalen: Så får du fram detta i terminalen efter ett par sekunders mellanrum:

9931 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1986.116 FPS

Sen kan vi optimera kortet lite till, i terminalen: Leta upp: Section "Device"
Lägg in dessa i den sektionen:

Här kommer lite bilder, men det återgår till normalt efeter ett par sekunder... men så fort man flyttar ett fönster så får blir det rutigt, om jag har vatten effekt på....

jag testade på att starta allt med vatten i beryl, funkar kanon här.
Hur ser din Xorg fil ut?
vi kanske kan optimera den ännu mer.

Satt o härja runt lite i xorgen, och hux flux funka det, vet ej men det kan kanske ha o göra med att jag gjorde en hel omstart på datorn med....

Den ser helt ok ut. Håller på att leta förbrylt efter tweaking for ATI kort, så att man får ut maximalt av korten. Men inte lätt att hitta ännu. Mesta är till för Edgy, lite annorlunda för Feisty.

Någon som vet om det funkar att få igång Beryl med ett ATI Radeon Xpress 200G Series (RS480) -kort ?

japp, det ska funka utan problem. Men då måste du köra en guide för fglrx. Kolla igenom dessa guider för just fglrx sessioner.

Härligt, alltid skönt att lyckats hjälpa andra

Nu har jag testat denna guide och kört fast. Det gick inte att starta om x så jag fick bota om datorn. Efter det vägrar x starta pga avsaknad av drivers till mitt gpu. Vad göra?

För att öppna Xorg när man inte kommer in i vanliga miljön gör man lättast så här: Kolla efter sektionen: Kolla så att det finns bara 1 EndSection, så att du inte har kopierat den med så att det finns 2 st.
Kolla så att det står "radeon" inte "fglx" eller "ati"

Sen för att spara filen så trycker man Ctrl + O (bokstaven o). Sen enter för att spara filen där den ligger.
Sen Ctrl + X för att avsluta.

Dem flesta brukar ha dessa fel, inklusive mig
Ibland är man för snabb och misstag kommer fram.

Trevligt med all denna expertis, jag har ju två sektioner med devices lr vad det nu hette. Hade glömt att ändra till radeon på bägge. Nu funkar det. Nu skall det utforskas

Hur gör jag om jag vill kopiera in min xorg.conf fil hit.... har lite svårigheter att via nano markera allt i filen. Tänkte på ifall den går att optimera något eller ej. Tänkte främst på opengl. Men gärna också generellt.

kommer du in i ubuntu så kan du öppna i Gedit istället. Mycket lättare, nano använder jag bara om jag inte kommer in på skrivbordet.
