Hoten mot Linux har ökat under 2013. Den som är mest bekant är trojanen "Hand of Thief". De nya hoten skapas i "underground forums" av mer eller mindre kriminella element. Faran med den ny formen av "malware as a FormGrabber bot and a Linux BackDoor" för Linuxanvändare är att många av skaparna/utvecklarna är trotts sin något tvivelaktiga bakgrund är kompetenta programmakare. Så undantagslöst är de nya hoten mot Linux "sophisticated".
