I will write in English in this post in respect for all travelers considering going eco-friendlier.

I looked at http://www.greenpeace.org/international ... es-line-up
and decided to look for a Samsung Laptop in the Pantip Plaza.
The perfect size is Samsung N120 for me. Big keyboard and white.

I immediately installed Ubuntu (Remix 9.04) of course and erased Windows completely. A clean feeling installed itself in my chest. :-)

...but the WLAN was not working.
,,,however, it pays off to visit eco-friendly and ethical places. Dudes hanging out there are eager to help any other eco-friendly and ethical person. In my case I met this person in Ethos, a vegetarian restaurant.

Now I have WLAN and hope I will soon be able to publish the detailed instructions here so that more people will take the right path.

The Dude used an XP driver on the Samsung CD "System Software Media" and was able to install it on my computer using some stuff I think it was called ndiswrapper. O0

...and the Dude also gave me info about xbacklight to adjust the screen brightness. Just download through the synaptic package manager and adjust through the terminal with

Kod: Markera allt

xbacklight -set 50 (or any number between 0-100)

Well, after some time using the WLAN with the XP driver I cannot say it works like a charm. Sometimes it will not connect. And in other places it might try repeatedly to connect to the wrong suppliers. Connects and works in 75% of the cases.

I clicked to install 9.10 in the update manager but it fucked up the sound as well so I installed 9.04 again. I installed the driver for my WLAN with ndiswrapper myself again, but I was not able to make it work. something missing. I do not know what, but for me that is ok. I like using LAN and most of all I love my new computer and Ubuntu. :)

Maybe Ubuntu 9.04 will work better if installed parallel with Windows XP?
Some people say they had no problems when doing this. http://www.stevenrosson.com/blog/2009/0 ... tbook.html

I'd rather buy an external WLAN for Ubuntu than install Windows. Hope the clever people come up with some good drivers for the next Netbook Remix.
