Dolphin by Default
Dolphin is a new file manager for KDE that focuses mainly on usability as well as simplicity. It is now the default file manager in Tribe 3. To knock down the rumour mill, Dolphin will not be replacing Konqueror. Konqueror does it all, while Dolphin focuses on being only a file manager allowing the optimisation of the user interface for the task of file management. So give Dolphin a go, especially if you are new to the K Desktop Environment.
It may have been Independence day in the United States, but it was the next stop towards desktop independence with the latest alpha release of KDE 4. The KDE developers couldn't think of a better time to release Alpha 2 than during the KDE developers summit, commonly known as Akademy. With an extreme amount of work put in, this is the first KDE 4 release that is a lot more usable than past snapshots. Well with that said, the Kubuntu team is proud to bring you this latest release already packaged for Kubuntu 7.10 and finding their home in the universe repositories. If you are interested in seeing where KDE 4 is currently at, search through Adept for kde4. Do note however that the alpha releases of KDE 4 are intended for developers and require no bug reporting at this time.

Jo jag såg att KDE4 kommer inte ens vara klar tills Gutsy släpps som färdig version heller. Tyckte jag läste det med....
Jo men varför gör du inte en upgrade KDE4 paketen hämtar man sedan separat som jag tolkar det. Någon KDE4 dist finns väl inte, Dolphin har jag redan i Gnome...
Sen har det ju varit KDE4 RC2 hela tiden enligt plan...

I Ubuntuforums o Kubuntus forum finns det några mysko script.
Jag får inte kde4 scriptet att starta en ny X session.
Även ändrat så att kdm är standard.
Jag har själv inte installerat KDE4 än, 2 gånger har jag testat och fått lite error på vissa paket han tankar hem. Då har jag inte vågat fortsätta nedtankningen av KDE4. (kan vara mitt internet som strulade, ska testa imorrn på morgonen när trafiken är lugn)
These packages are available for i386 and amd64.
Instructions:
* Add the apt sources line above.
* Install kde4base-dev, this will uninstall the normal qt4 packages and install the qt4 kdecopy packages.
* These KDE 4 packages install to /usr/lib/kde4 so run:
o export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/lib
o export KDEDIR=/usr/lib/kde4
o export PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/bin/:$PATH
o export KDEHOME=~/.kde4
* Run some programmes. Konsole seems to work. Good luck.
* To avoid having to start a second X server for a full session install xserver-xephyr and run Xephyr :1; export DISPLAY=:1; xterm and run startkde in the Xerphyr xterm.
* To run it as a full session copy /usr/lib/kde4/share/apps/kdm/sessions/kde.desktop to /usr/share/xsessions/kde4.desktop, edit the Name entry in kde4.desktop to be called "KDE 4", put the four export lines at the top of /usr/lib/kde4/bin/startkde and start a new session in KDM with KDE 4.
