Hej alla,
Tänkte att jag skulle prova på Ubuntu 7.10 som jag läst en hel del gott om. Efter installation på egen hårddisk så startade allt som det skulle men:
1. Om jag går via "System"-> "Inställningar" -> "Utseende" och väljer "Visuella effekter - Normala eller Extra" får jag meddelandet "Desktop effects could not be enabled". Datorn är inte lastgammal men har ett ATI Radeon 5500. Om jag förstått saken rätt är ATI inte bästa valet i Linux - betyder det att jag inte får det roligare än så här?
2. Under boot-sekvensen så visas fönstret med "timglaset" i någon skum upplösning som ger en svart skärm. Skärmen ger meddelandet "Out of range". Efter en stund så dyker inloggningen upp och allt är frid och fröjd. Irriterande men knappast viktigt.
Jag kikade i någon guide om att man skulle ha SGI drivrutinr vilket jag verkar ha men det hjälper inte...

vad ger fglrxinfo i terminal
sen måste du ha xlg för att kunna ha dem effekterna.
sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl
Edit: out of range kan du få för signalen tappas,
tex för horizon o vertical refresh är fel.
hur du gör bäst för det, får nån annan ta för
grafik är inte min grej. behöver viserligen inte vara det
som är fel heller. men tror det.

Kul att se att det finns ett sådant engegemang och hjälp att få. Tyvärr har inget av ovanstående tips hjälpt. Det första exemplet gav mig en extremt långsam dator och det andra gjorde att grafiken inte startade över huvud taget. D.v.s. datorn fungerade bättre innan jag började "pilla" även om jag inte kunde använda några trevliga effekter.
Lyckligtvis har jag kvar XP på den andra hårddisken så jag blir kanske kvar i Windows-världen.

Testa att ändra Xorg på så sätt jag har gjort, det är texten som är skrivet i fet text. Sen starta om datan.
Sen kolla om datan hoppar igång och kolla om du får igång tex Compiz (den med 3D effekter på skrivbordet)

Tack för tipset, men tyvärr gjorde det ingen skillnad. Alla skärmuppdateringar går extremt långsamt och försöker jag lägga till visuella effekter så får jag bara meddelandet att "Desktop effects could not be enabled".
